Everett captain Dawson Leedahl to miss four-to-six weeks

The Everett Silvertips learned Sunday that captain Dawson Leedahl will be out four-to-six weeks after suffering a hand injury during Saturday’s win against the Seattle Thunderbirds in Kent.

Leedahl blocked a shot late in the third period and skated off to the locker room before the game was over where he was attended to by the team trainer.

The four-to-six week timetable means he could possibly return before the end of the season. The end of the regular season is six weeks from Saturday when the Tips return to Victoria on March 19.

Leedahl becomes the third Tips forward lost to injury in recent weeks. Brandon Ralph (hand) and Riley Sutter (leg) are both out for several more weeks, while forward/defenseman Mackenzie Dwyer (knee) is done for the season.

In the meantime recent 16-year-old call-up Bryce Kindopp will presumably remain with the team for the near future. Kindopp was having an excellent year for the Lloydminster Bobcats of the Alberta Midget Hockey League with 14 goals and 21 assists in 30 games.

Everett’s third-round bantam pick in 2014, Kindopp played in Friday’s win over Kamloops and was a healthy scratch against Seattle.

Leedahl missed nearly two months with a knee injury last season and has been banged up at times this season as well – though he’s been able to play through it in most instances.

He has 12 goals and 14 assists and a team-high 78 penalty minutes as he is often charged with using his physicality to stick up for teammates. He fought Seattle’s Cavin Leth 15 seconds into Saturday’s game.

The U.S. Division-leading Silvertips (32-16-2-2, 68 points) are in Victoria Monday for a rare 2 p.m. start against the red-hot Royals (34-15-2-3, 73 points). The Royals are on a 10-0-1-0 streak and currently two points back of first-place Kelowna in the B.C. Division.
