EVERETT — Beardo apparently has hit his last bank.
“Beardo” was the name given to a bandit accused of seven bank robberies in Everett since June. On Friday, police arrested Christian N. Franzwa, 57, of Everett.
He was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of seven counts of robbery. Everett detectives had been tracking Franzwa alongside the FBI, Everett police Sgt. Maryjane Hacker said.
“This is fantastic news for the city of Everett,” Hacker said.
Franzwa was pulled over and arrested late Friday morning near the intersection of Fourth Ave W. and 128th Street SW, south of town.
The robberies started in June at the Columbia Bank on Evergreen Way. Five banks were robbed in all, most recently on Dec. 23, according to a news release. Columbia Bank was hit three times.
The name “Beardo” came from a fake beard and other disguise accessories worn by the robber, including a nose covering apparently made from card stock. He showed a gun in some of the robberies but in others only implied having a weapon, according to an FBI bulletin from November.
The arrest location was near the Banner Bank at 12717 4th Ave. W., which Beardo hit in July.
Franzwa reportedly was wearing a fake beard when he was arrested. He is expected in court for a bail hearing next week.
