We have some great breweries in our little corner of the country.
There are the “little” guys who put the micro in microbrewery back in the day like Red Hook, breweries that have been going strong for 20 years like Everett’s own Scuttlebutt and nascent breweries playing beer chemist in their own garages like Marysville’s At Large and 5 Rights breweries.
From noon to 5 p.m. Feb. 20, the Washington Beer Commission will host the Washington Beer Open House, a day the WBC puts out the red carpet to all local breweries. Among the things beer drinkers can expect from participating breweries includes meeting the brewers, showing off new and rare beers, giving brewery tours and, of course, plenty of samples.
The WBC wants visitors to post pictures on Twitter and Facebook using the hashtag #wabeeroh. It is also encouraging people to use designated drivers since many breweries are teaming up with neighboring breweries on raffles.
Here’s a look at what local breweries are planning this Saturday:
5 Rights Brewing, Marysville: Will have 11 beers on tap, including four IPAs. Get your first taste of the brewery’s Springish Saison, which won’t be officially released until April 1.
At Large Brewing, Marysville: Offering tastes of a barrel-aged barleywine and other beers.
Beardslee Public House, Bothell: Offering 15-minute tours of the brewery every hour on the hour. Tour attendees over 21 will get a taster of Beardslee’s soon-to-be released Old Growth Barleywine.
Diamond Knot: The brewpub at Mountlake Terrace will offer free food and rare Diamond Knot beers will be on tap, including Shipwreck XXXIPA.
Foggy Noggin Brewing, Bothell: Offering tours of the brewery and samples of XX Duck, the brewery’s imperial porter aged and poured directly from a Scotch barrel. FN will also be releasing Diablo del Sol, an English pale ale.
Justice Brewing, Everett: Open extended hours until 5 p.m. Offering new and limited release beers in bottles and tastings all day. Entrance is in the alley between Chestnut and Walnut streets in Everett.
Lazy Boy Brewing, Everett: Offering tastes of special beers. Working with Crucible Brewing and Middleton Brews on a raffle; visit all three locations to be entered.
McMenamin’s, Bothell/Mill Creek: Both Snohomish County locations, Anderson School and Mill Creek, will offer growler fills for $8 (high gravity ales $10) all day.
Scuttlebutt Brewing, Everett: Working with Diamond Knot, Lazy Boy and Salish Sea on a prize package for the open house. A person will need to visit all four breweries and get a stamp in their open house passport to be eligible for the prize drawing. Offering tours of the brewery, including new expansion area. Offering samples of rare beers.
Sound to Summit, Snohomish: Head brewer Grady Warnock will be teaching a homebrewing class at 12:30 p.m. Sound to Summit will also debut a collaboration beer with SnoTown Brewery called Airport Way Double IPA. Warnock will also brew a 10-gallon pilot batch of the brewery’s spring beer.
Whitewall Brewing, Marysville: Offering $1 off pints. Part of the Snohomish Brewery Booty Bucket raffle event, with Justice Brewing, Diamond Knot Brewery, Scuttlebutt Brewing, Salish Sea Brewing and Lazy Boy Brewery.
Whiskey Ridge Brewing, Arlington: Offering $2 off tasting flights and pints for WABL members, $1 off for non- members. Special brews include Belgian Cherry Ale and La Reine Folle Rouge.
