Transit use has grown twice as fast as the population since 2010, according to a recent Puget Sound Regional Council brief.
In 2015, 179 million boardings were logged on fixed-route buses, light rail, street cars and commuter rail in the region. That’s up 1.7 million compared to 2014, which itself was a record-setting year.
Since 2010, total transit boardings have increased about 12 percent while population grew just under 6 percent.
And it’s not just a recovery. The boardings are more than 8 percent above pre-recession highs, which hit 166 million boardings in 2008, and come during years when service was being cut.
In the coming weeks, the council will add a look at transit data from January 2016, which is often representative for the year.
