Marysville is looking for a new volunteer to serve on the city’s Police Civil Service Commission. Members are appointed by the mayor and serve as unpaid volunteers for a term of six years. Commission members must be citizens of Marysville for the three years immediately preceding the appointment and must be registered to vote in Snohomish County.

DSHS assistance: The Mobile Community Services Office, a program of the state Department of Social and Health Services, is scheduled to be at the Edmonds Lutheran Church from 3 to 6:30 p.m. Feb. 24. The church is at 23525 84th Ave. W in Edmonds. DSHS staff will be on hand to determine eligibility for the cash, food, child care and medical assistance programs. The public can also apply for Medicare savings programs and for aged, blind, or disabled Medicaid. Dinner will be served at Annie’s Community Kitchen on the church property.
S-p-e-l-l-o-f-f: Kids and teens are invited to compete in a Spelling Bee to help raise money for the Everett Family YMCA’s youth and family programs. The event is set for 6 p.m. March 4, with registration due by Thursday. Cost is $2 for participants and $3 to come and watch the action. There are elementary, middle school and high school divisions.
