SEATTLE — Authorities say a Washington state man who shot and killed his wife, her two sons and a neighbor last week had access to a handgun and five rifles or shotguns — despite being subject to a court order last summer requiring him to surrender any weapons in his possession or control.
A court commissioner ordered David Wayne Campbell to turn over any guns to law enforcement last July, when a former employee obtained a protection order against him.
But Campbell certified in a form for the court that he didn’t have any weapons. The Mason County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday that the handgun apparently belonged to his wife, but it and the other weapons nevertheless should have been surrendered because Campbell had control of them.
Campbell killed himself during a standoff with law enforcement near Belfair on Friday.
