OLYMPIA — State Rep. Hans Dunshee was sworn in at 4:40 p.m. Wednesday as a Snohomish County councilman by state Supreme Court Justice Mary Fairhurst.
The ceremony took place at Fairhurst’s office in the Temple of Justice.
The County Council appointed Dunshee, a Snohomish Democrat, to County Executive Dave Somers’ former council seat Monday.
Dunshee was one of three nominees selected by Democratic Party precinct committee officers in the council’s District 5. Though Dunshee was the party’s second-ranked choice, he won the appointment on a 3-1 vote by the council.
The seat has been vacant since Jan. 1, when Somers, a Democrat, took office as executive following his victory in the November election.
Dunshee plans to serve out this legislative session, which is scheduled to end March 10.
Dunshee needs to win election in November to retain the council seat through 2017, when Somers’ term would have expired.
