Razor clam diggers will hit the coast at Roosevelt Beach, Pacific Beach and Moclips (collectively called “Mocrocks”) this weekend for just the second dig at the popular area since last spring. Mocrocks Beach runs from the Copalis River north to the Quinault Reservation boundary, and will be open Saturday through Tuesday.
The first dig at Mocrocks in 2016 was Feb. 19, 20 and 21, and was “outstanding,” according to state biologist Dan Ayres in Montesano.
“Weather and surf the first day were poor and diggers struggled,” he said, “but the next two days were mostly limits (15 clams) around.”
Ayres said there are plenty of clams left on Mocrocks beaches — despite a crowd of more than 8,000 diggers on Feb. 20 — and they’re of a good size.
Evening low tides will be as follows: Saturday, 3:53 p.m., plus 0.3 feet; Sunday, 4:40 p.m., minus 0.2 feet; Monday, 5:23 p.m., minus 0.5 feet; and Tuesday, 6:05 p.m., minus 0.6 feet.
