Democrats in the 1st Legislative District plan to hold a “mock caucus” at their Monday, March 14 meeting.
Democrats say that the mock caucus will help people prepare for the March 26 precinct caucuses, the first events in selecting Washington state’s delegates to the national Democratic presidential nominating convention in Philadelphia in late July.
The 1st District Democrats’ Monday meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the International Union of Operating Engineers Hall, 18701 120th Ave. N.E., Bothell.
The 1st Legislative District includes most of Mountlake Terrace, all of Brier and Bothell, unincorporated areas of Snohomish County north and east of Bothell, north Kirkland, and unincorporated areas of King County between Bothell and Kirkland.
The Washington Democratic Party uses the caucus results to allocate delegates to the national presidential nominating convention. Washington Democrats don’t use results of the May presidential primary.
Democrats in the 1st Legislative District say that they are holding the mock caucus because the caucus process can be confusing.
They say that caucus goers need to find the locations of their caucuses; and download, complete, and sign the registration form, before taking it to the caucus on March 26 at 10 a.m.
The Monday, March 14, 1st Legislative District Democratic meeting at 7 p.m. follows dinner at 6.
Several elected officials and candidates for office will speak.
