OLYMPIA — Washington lawmakers, in their second week of an overtime special session, continue working toward a supplemental budget deal but have not yet reached an agreement.
Republican Sen. Andy Hill, one of the negotiators, said Tuesday that “significant progress” was made in the past week and that there was still a possibility that lawmakers could finish their work by the end of the week.
Budget negotiations have been mostly private since leaders from each chamber revealed their original proposals in February. But the Republican-led Senate made its most recent public offer earlier this month, one that moved closer to the initial budget proposal of House Democrats.
Gov. Jay Inslee called the special session immediately after the regular 60-day session ended March 10, and vetoed 27 bills because lawmakers didn’t make a budget deal before the deadline.
