The Silvertips announced the signing of 2000-born defenseman Gianni Fairbrother this afternoon.
Per the Silvertips release:
Fairbrother was awarded Top Defenseman this season in the Canadian Sports School Hockey League (Elite 15s), tallying five goals and 13 assists in 35 games to lead the Burnaby Winter Club in scoring among defensemen and ranking second in club playoff scoring with four assists in four games. He also joined Burnaby’s Prep club, notching three assists in five games and posting a pair of assists in his only playoff game.
The 5-foot-10, 174-pound blueliner was selected by the Silvertips in the fourth round (80th overall) in the 2015 WHL bantam draft.
Fairbrother joins the Silvertips active roster and has been assigned jersey No. 48.
Fairbrother has been practicing with the Tips for several days. I wouldn’t anticipate him getting in any games, but it’s possible depending on how deep the Tips go in the playoffs and if there should be any injuries.
Also of note:
– Carter Hart returned to practice Monday. He participated in about half the drills before departing to the locker room, and I’m told that was the plan all along as the Tips will bring him along slowly. He hasn’t played since March 12 and I would be shocked if played tomorrow, particularly with how well Mario Petit is playing and how Petit has played against Portland this season.
– Tristen Pfeifer also was a full participant at practice for the first time since March 12. He’s been out with an undisclosed upper-body injury. Riley Sutter (broken leg) also fully participated.
– If you’re looking for a series perspective from the Portland media, you can check out Paul Danzer of the (Vancouver) Columbian.
– Petit was named the WHL nominee for CHL Goaltender of the Week. Not bad for a guy who played only 15 games during the regular season. If you can’t enough of his humility I’ve re-embedded the video of his Friday post-game interview below:
