Preacher’s Wife is now Tellers, and they have a new E.P.

Everett band Tellers is gearing up to release its first E.P. on Friday. Well, the first under this name, that is.

The E.P. is titled “Walking Blind,” and while the name Tellers may be new to you, the musicians in the band might look familiar if you have been following the Everett music scene in the last few years. Only you probably know them as Preacher’s Wife, but Preacher’s Wife is no more. Now we have Tellers.

But why the change?

“We were getting niched into the country or folk genres all the time and that’s not my whole background. I wanted to move out of that a little bit and the guys were ready for that too. It was time to move outside the genre and the name change fit that,” said lead vocalist Sarah Feinberg.

The name Tellers isn’t the only thing that is fresh for this group. For now, at least, Tellers have left behind the folk/country roots attached to the band formerly known as Preacher’s Wife in favor of a much more progressive and darker sound.

“It’s definitely more rock-and-roll. The guys in the band have more post-rock influences, and this is more like heavier and darker. It’s kind of my mood. Life is hard and sometimes dark,” Feinberg said, laughing.

And it sounds really, really good.

You can catch Tellers live on Saturday when they release their “Walking Blind” E.P. at the Everett Music Initiative and Scuttlebutt Brewing Record Store Day show with Motopony and Everett band Crystal Desert. The show will be at the Downtown Everett Elks Lodge and tickets can be purchased for $15 online or $20 at the door. This show is 21-plus and starts at 8 p.m.
