OSO — In the morning light Friday, Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies were able to reach two vehicles spotted the day before belonging to a missing Arlington-area couple.
What they didn’t find Friday was the couple themselves.
Patrick Shunn, 45, and his wife, Monique Patenaude, 46, were last seen Monday. Since then, family and friends have been concerned about their disappearance because it was unusual for them not to be in contact with family.
The Jeep and a Land Rover were spotted Thursday in a remote, wooded area near Oso by crews on SnoHAWK10, the county’s search and rescue helicopter.
Friday was spent gathering evidence from the vehicles and in the area around where they were found. Deputies will return to the site over the weekend.
The goal Friday was to search the vehicles for clues that might lead to the missing couple’s whereabouts. Both vehicles appeared to have gone over an embankment. They were found near each other.
Both vehicles were towed from the area after the search, sheriff’s office spokeswoman Shari Ireton said. The vehicles were about 200 feet from each other and had extensive damage.
Police searched the couple’s property for clues Thursday. Their home is at the east end of Whitman Road, between Arlington and Darrington.
The couple were scheduled to be in court last week for a hearing regarding an ongoing land dispute with a neighbor. The hearing was later rescheduled for May.
Anyone who has information about the missing pair is asked to call the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office anonymous tip line at 425-388-3845.
Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the disappearance, Ireton said Thursday.
“We don’t have a suspect or a person of interest at this point,” she said.
