TACOMA — A man who prosecutors say stole a car, fired a weapon and crashed into a school bus has been sentenced to time in prison.
The News Tribune reports 35-year-old Sopheap Chith was convicted by a jury in 2014 of felonies including second-degree assault and drive-by shooting.
His sentence was shortened by a year Friday to 17 years and two months after an appeals court invalidated one of the convictions.
Prosecutors say Chith was driving a stolen car in 2013 when a witness saw him fire a weapon twice out of the window.
The witness began following, and prosecutors say Chith shot at the driver.
Prosecutors said Chith ran a red light and collided with the bus full of elementary school children.
No injuries were reported.
