Lynnwood senior Mikayla Pivec gave hoops fans in Oregon a little taste of what’s to come last weekend.
The Oregon State signee scored 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the Washington team over the Oregon squad 103-61 Saturday at the 22nd Northwest Shootout on Saturday at Liberty High School in Hillsboro, Oregon.
Pivec, a two-time Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Washington, was named the game’s Most Valuable Player. The Royals senior added four assists and two steals for the Washington team, which won the annual event for the eighth time in the last nine games. Pivec netted 15 of her points in the first half as the squad from Washington pulled away early.
Pivec was joined on the Washington team by her Lynnwood teammate, Jordyn Edwards. Edwards, who has signed with Colorado State, scored nine points and blocked two shots in the contest.
Also on the Washington team was Snohomish senior Madeline Smith, who scored eight points and grabbed eight rebounds in the victory. Shorecrest’s Uju Chibuogwu was named to the team but was unable to play.
The team from Washington was coached by Shorecrest head coach Dori Monson, with Everett Edwards — who recently stepped down as Lynnwood’s coach — and former Edmonds-Woodway coach Duane Hodges assisting.
“What a weekend… what a blessing to work with an incredibly talented group of athletes,” Monson tweeted on Sunday.
