LYNNWOOD — A woman who was thought to have been kidnapped near Lynnwood on March 14 has been arrested on unrelated matters.
The 20-year-old Renton woman told police she was never kidnapped, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office reported Monday.
The incident was the subject of intense news coverage after witnesses said they saw the woman being shoved into a vehicle along Larch Way near Poplar Way. At first, people were posting on social media that a teen girl had been kidnapped from a nearby school.
Surveillance video released by detectives presented a more complicated set of events, including evidence the woman earlier had been driving the vehicle she later was shoved into.
The woman was arrested Saturday on several warrants, sheriff’s spokeswoman Shari Ireton said. The woman had made contact with her family earlier this month, but at that point, police were not able to determine whether she was in danger.
No information was released Monday on what investigators believe happened March 14.
The woman is considered a victim of a crime that is the focus of an ongoing investigation, Ireton said. Her name was not made public Monday.
