KANSAS CITY, Mo. —The Detroit Tigers activated left-handed pitcher Blaine Hardy from the disabled list and designated right-hander Logan Kensing for assignment prior to Tuesday’s game against the Kansas City Royals.
Hardy, a graduate of Edmonds-Woodway High School, gives the Tigers three left-handed relievers against the lefty-heavy Royals lineup. Hardy had been out since late in the spring with a shoulder impingement and posted a 3.86 ERA in four rehab outings.
Hardy was among the Tigers’ best relievers last season, with a 3.08 ERA in 70 appearances.
Also Tuesday, manager Brad Ausmus said X-rays on Cameron Maybin came back clear after the outfielder was plunked on the wrist Sunday in a minor-league game. Maybin has been in the final stages of a rehab assignment after a hairline fracture was discovered in his left wrist.
