It was unsettling to see yet another article about Colton Harris Moore with “Bandit” in tacky air quotes, for emphasis, on the front page of the local news. Why do your writers continue to refer to him as “The Barefoot Bandit”? He was given a sentence, he is trying to repay his debt to society. When he does, he will have to make a life for himself. It is not going to be easy. We all know his given name. Referring to him as the “Bandit” is neither necessary nor appropriate. He is a young man, with many issues. He is no longer a “Bandit,” so, let’s all help him to put that part of his life behind him and address him with some common courtesy. We ll know his name.
