Starting off this year’s list of special fishing days for kids is the big annual event at Lake Tye, sponsored by the Sky Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited. The lake is on the west side of Monroe, adjacent to Fryelands Boulevard. The fish-in is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday. The event, for youngsters ages 12 and under, is free.
Organizer Gary Bee said there will be lots of fun prizes, and that the club has purchased $5,000 worth of trout, so there should be plenty of fish for all. Kids will fish in a netted area at the south end of the lake and may either bring their own gear or use borrowed equipment. Club members will be on hand to assist.
When the kids are finished, an adult derby runs from 2 to 5 p.m. with a cash prize of $250 for the largest trout and a bonus prize of $500 for anyone catching a special tagged fish. The entry fee for the adult derby is $10.
