EVERETT — Prosecutors have charged a convicted felon with first-degree murder in the death of a homeless man whose body was found April 7 in a sleeping bag in an Everett swamp.
James Daniel Archer, 46, remains jailed on $1 million bail.
He was arrested about a week after David A. Webster’s body was discovered partially submerged in a marshy area near a homeless encampment. Webster, 54, died of homicidal violence that included asphyxiation.
He had a bungee cord wrapped around his neck and underwear stuffed in his mouth. Archer allegedly admitted that he assaulted Webster during a confrontation over money. The suspect told police that he believed that Webster stole $300 from Archer’s girlfriend.
Snohomish County deputy prosecutor Toni Montgomery charged Archer earlier this week in Everett District Court, alleging that he killed Webster during the commission of a robbery and kidnapping.
Prosecutors have until May 6 to refile the murder charge into Superior Court.
