BIRCH BAY — Authorities say a man has been arrested on suspicion of kidnapping after his girlfriend accused him of threatening to kill her and intentionally crashed a vehicle into the wall of a Birch Bay gas station to escape from him.
The Bellingham Herald reported that 24-year-old Michael Eisenman was arrested after the crash Wednesday. He has declined to speak with authorities about the incident.
Whatcom County sheriff’s deputies say they responded after a clerk at the Bay Center Market reported that the 21-year-old woman appeared to have been beaten and signaled that she needed help.
The couple reportedly drove off and was found shortly after when the woman crashed at the Shell station.
Authorities say the man fled the vehicle, but a group of citizens detained him until deputies arrived.
