ALBANY, Ore. — A man is undergoing treatment after being bitten by a bat carrying the state’s first confirmed case of rabies this year.
The Albany Democrat-Herald reported that a Benton County Health Department news release says a man who woke up Wednesday to find he’d been bitten by a bat took the animal to the Benton County Environmental Health Division.
Oregon State Public Health Laboratory testing was positive for rabies.
Health officials say people should make sure doors and window screens are in working order and that pets are current on vaccinations.
Rabies can be fatal if not treated immediately.
