PORTLAND, Ore. — Authorities are investigating more than a dozen fires that have broken out at Portland area homeless camps over a two-month period.
KGW-TV reported a northwest Portland homeless camp that was the site of an early Thursday morning blaze caught fire Friday evening as well.
Portland Fire &Rescue Lt. Rich Chatman said Thursday that the department has responded to 15 to 20 suspicious fires at homeless camps, though it’s unclear whether they were arson or if they were connected.
Chatman told the Oregonian that setting a fire in a homeless camp puts the lives of people sleeping there at risk.
Investigators are comparing evidence from the fires.
There are no leads or suspects.
Fire and police departments are working to set up a tip line.
