SEATTLE — King County Executive Dow Constantine has ordered an inquest into the February fatal shooting of a man by two Seattle police officers.
Police say officers were conducting surveillance Feb. 21 in north Seattle when they saw a man with a holstered handgun and determined it was Che Taylor, 47, a felon prohibited from possessing a firearm.
When an officer tried to take Taylor into custody, authorities say, he didn’t follow commands to show his hands and get on the ground. Instead, officers and a witness say he reached for his gun and officers fired on him.
Seattle-King County NAACP leaders have condemned the shooting and disputed the police account of the shooting.
County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg recommended the inquest after his office reviewed materials provide by Seattle police.
