BELLEVUE, Wash. — Officials say the Bellevue deputy police chief has been demoted due to a months-long pattern of disrespect and unacceptable performance.
The Seattle Times reports that Bellevue Deputy Police Chief Jim Jolliffe was demoted to captain after an independent investigation report released this week.
Police Chief Steve Mylett wrote in an accompanying discipline notice that Jolliffe displayed a lack of interest in his job and an unwillingness to follow Mylett’s expectations for leadership and professional conduct.
Mylett added that Jolliffe will be fired if his misconduct continues.
Mylett took over the department a year ago and has emphasized high professionalism standards to put behind it multiple incidents of misconduct, most of which happened before he arrived.
Jolliffe has worked for the department for 25 years, serving as deputy chief for five years. He’s appealing the demotion.
