Alaska USA Foundation donates $10,000 to Children’s Miracle Network

The Alaska USA Foundation recently donated $10,000 to the Children’s Miracle Network, which will support research and training, equipment purchases and uncompensated care in Children’s Miracle Network hospitals. The Alaska USA Foundation supports charitable organizations that provide needs-based services to children, veterans and active duty members of the military and their families.

Smokey Point Community Clean-Up Day planned

Local businesses and community are invited to participate in a Smokey Point Community Clean-Up Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 14. The focus will be on four specific locations in the immediate Smokey Point area. Lunch is being provided by Safeway. Check in by 9:30 a.m. in the Safeway parking lot located at 3532 172nd St.

Volunteers need for annual Letter Carriers Food Drive

Volunteers are needed to join the annual Letter Carriers Food Drive scheduled for May 14. Volunteers will join the letter carriers to sort the food at four post offices — two in Everett, one in Edmonds and one in Lynnwood. Last year, 259,822 pounds of food was collected during this community event. Learn more and sign up here.

State: Retail sales sees uptick

Washington state’s taxable retail sales grew 7.7 percent in the fourth quarter of 2015, according to the Department of Revenue. Its retail trade, which is a portion of all taxable retail sales, rose 4.7 percent in that same period. Snohomish County’s fourth quarter taxable retail sales also grew 7.7 percent to $3.42 billion while retail trade grew 3.9 percent to $1.84 billion.
