Upcoming musical performances around Snohomish County

Evergreen Community Orchestra: The orchestra presents a free concert at 2:30 p.m. May 15 at the Northwest Music Hall, located in the Everett Mall near Macy’s. The “Spring Classics” concert, directed by Marcin Paczkowski, features violin soloist Luke Fitzpatrick performing the “Air” from Carl Goldmark’s Violin Concerto No. 1. Also on the program is “Fanfare for the Common Man” by Aaron Copeland, “Eine Kleine Nachmusik” by W.A. Mozart and Edvard Grieg’s Suite No. 1 from “Peer Gynt.” More at evergreencommunityorchestra.org.

Stargazing in 35mm: The band plays a concert at 7:30 p.m. May 7 at the Tim Noah Thumbnail Theater, 1211 Fourth St., Snohomish. For information, call 360-568-9412. The band’s first concept album, Space Bass, takes place in a retro-futuristic world, with an action-packed storyline. Em Tyson, Shawn Arko and Hakan Saray have been writing together for about four years and became a band last summer when Elden Fisher joined. Support these Snohomish High School students by buying a $10 ticket at the door.

Cascade Symphony Orchestra: Concerts are at the Edmonds Center for the Arts, 410 Fourth Ave. N. For tickets, go to www.edmondscenterforthearts.org. More information at cascadesymphony.org. The final concert of the season, “Organ Symphony,” is 7:30 p.m. May 9 at Edmonds Center for the Arts. It includes the Saint-Saens Third Symphony, Rachmaninoff’s Vocalise, and Four Last Songs by Strauss, featuring Kimberly Giordano, soprano.

Buddy, Ritchie and The Big Bopper: “The Day the Music Died,” featuring the music of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and JP Richardson, is at 7:30 p.m. May 13 at the Marysville Opera House, 1225 Third St. Festival seating. Refreshments available. Tickets are $15 for adults and $11 for students and active military. Call 360-363-8400.

Everett Philharmonic Orchestra: Tickets, with discounts for groups, seniors, students and military, are available at www.everettphil.org. The “Listener’s Choice” season finale concert is 7 p.m. May 14 at Everett Civic Auditorium, featuring Villa-Lobos’ “Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5” with soprano Ellaina Lewis and the Philharmonic’s cello section, and pianist Alexander Ardakov performing the Grieg Piano Concerto in A minor.

Mill Creek Chorale: The 50-voice group’s spring concert, “Let It Shine,” featuring Broadway tunes and gospel songs, will be presented at 3 and 7 p.m. May 14 at Advent Lutheran Church, 4306 132nd St. SE, Mill Creek. Under the direction of Sean Berg, the chorale’s matinee will feature Cascade High School’s Vivace group. The evening performance will feature the debut of the Mill Creek Children’s Chorus. Tickets are available online www.millcreekchorale.brownpapertickets.com. General admission is $12 ($15 at the door), students and seniors are $8 ($10 at the door) and children are admitted free.

Lynnwood Community Band: The group plays at the new Bothell City Hall Plaza at 3:30 p.m. May 14 at 18415 101st Ave. NE. Free with free parking at the City Hall garage. Bring a chair.

Everett Rock Party: Marc Tachell, the local online personality known as “Everett Rock,” is throwing a free all-ages party featuring five bands from 3 to 11 p.m. May 14 at the Golf Range and Lounge, 1215 80th St. SW, Everett. The bands are Body Electric, Moon Daddy, The Rooners, Medicine Hat and The High Council. More at everettrock.com.

Darol Anger and Emy Phelps: One of the country’s top fiddle players, the legendary Darol Anger, joins local songwriter Emy Phelps for a concert at 4 p.m. May 15 at the Tim Noah Thumbnail Theater, 1211 Fourth St., Snohomish. For more information, call 360-568-9412.

Stacy Jones: The local Southern Rock queen is playing a free all-ages concert at 11 a.m. May 15 at Main Stage, 900 First St., Snohomish. More at www.stacyjonesband.com.

West African Kora Music Hear of the music of West Africa when Sean Gaskell performs at 2 p.m. May 15 in the Everett Public Library Auditorium, 2702 Hoyt Ave., Everett. Admission is free. Gaskell performs traditional songs on a 21-string harp called the Kora, featuring the music of the Mande people, who live in Gambia, Senegal, Mali, Guinea and Guinea Bissau. The concert will be repeated at 4 p.m. May 16 at the Snohomish Library, 311 Maple Ave.

Trinity’s Organ Recital Series: The season at Trinity Lutheran Church ends with a concert by Michael Kleinschmidt, canon musician at St. Mark’s Cathedral in Seattle, at 7 p.m. May 15 at the church, 6215 196th St. SW, Lynnwood. Suggested donation is $15.

Jazz at the Center: The Jennifer Scott Quartet performs from 7 to 9 p.m. May 18 at the Camano Center, 606 Arrowhead Road, Camano Island. Tickets are $20 for adults. Students are free with ID. Call 360-387-0222 for more information.

Edmonds Jazz Connection Festival: This free fest is 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. May 21 in downtown Edmonds. Award-winning high school jazz students will perform. A special concert by the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra is planned. Venues include Edmonds Center for the Arts and Holy Rosary Church. Donations benefit scholarships. Mukilteo Community Orchestra: The last 2 p.m. matinee of the season is May 22 at Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln Ave., Mukilteo. More at www.mukilteoorchestra.org.

The Gothard Sisters and Saratoga Orchestra: The nationally renowned Celtic band from Edmonds joins the Whidbey Island orchestra for concerts at 2:30 p.m. May 21 at Coupeville High School and 2:30 p.m. May 22 at South Whidbey High School in Langley. Ticket information is at www.sowhidbey.com.

Pacifica Chamber Orchestra: All performances are at First Presbyterian Church, 2936 Rockefeller, Everett. More information is at www.pacificachamberorchestra.org. The season finale on June 5 features Block’s Concertino for Flute, Viola and Strings.

The chorale’s 50th anniversary season continues with “Celebrate and Sing” at 7 p.m. June 11 and 3 p.m. June 12, featuring a collage of American choral music from the chorale’s 50-year history.
