OLYMPIA — Thurston County health officials are warning people and pets to stay away from Pattison Lake.
Water samples taken from the lake last week found a toxic blue-green algae. It was above the standard for recreational water use.
The neurotoxin can affect the nervous system in people and animals. If your pet shows any signs of poisoning, contact your veterinarian. Symptoms include weakness, staggering, difficulty breathing and convulsions.
Officials posted warning signs. They say people and animals should avoid swimming, watersports and drinking any surface water.
