It ain’t over ‘til the fat lady gets the axe: The Minnesota Opera premiered an operatic version of Stephen King’s “The Shining” on Saturday. It’s based on the horror novel rather than the Stanley Kubrick film that starred Jack Nicholson.
But one aria should be familiar if a little repetitive: It’s just the crazed novelist sitting at his typewriter singing, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” over and over.
All the wrenching details: Police in Columbus, Ohio, are looking for a thief who is removing plumbing fixtures from the restrooms of stores, restaurants and a hospital and carting them off in a backpack.
What makes the crimes’ investigation especially difficult is that because of the missing plumbing police have nothing to go on.
Don’t know much about history: On this day in 1961, in a speech to the National Association of Broadcasters, FCC Chairman Newton Minow called the majority of television programming “a vast wasteland.”
