Everett schools communication director wins Lifetime Achievement Award
Washington School Public Relations Association has honored Everett Public Schools communications director Mary Waggoner with its first-ever Lifetime Achievement Award. The association also honored Waggoner in 1997 with a Learning and Liberty Award for her contributions to the profession. Waggoner has served as Everett Public Schools’ director of communications since the spring of 2006. Waggoner is retiring at the end of the school year. Communications director Leanna Albrecht will transition from Northshore School District to Everett Public Schools in July.
Economic Alliance to host annual awards celebration
Economic Alliance Snohomish County’s Fifth Annual Meeting and Awards Celebration is 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Tulalip Resort Casino. The Henry M. Jackson Citizen of the Year and John M. Fluke Community Leader awards will be presented along with The Herald Business Journal’s Entrepreneur of the Year, Executive of the Year and Emerging Leader awards. More details are available here.
‘Shift Happens’ talk to be held at EdCC
At 7 p.m. Tuesday, speakers from Edmonds Community College, Sno-Isle Libraries, Sno-Isle Libraries Foundation and The Daily Herald will offer Shift Happens: Creating New Futures. The event will be at Black Box Theatre in Mukilteo Hall at Edmonds Community College, 20000 68th Ave. W, Lynnwood. It is free and open to the public.
EvCC holds annual Spring Career and Internship Fair
Employers from more than 90 companies will be looking for new hires at Everett Community College’s Spring Career and Internship Fair 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday 11 at EvCC’s Walt Price Student Fitness Center. Vote for nonprofit Farmer Frog in Comcast contest
Local nonprofit Farmer Frog has been selected as a finalist for the Comcast Innovations 4 Entrepreneurs Contest. Each of the 14 finalists will receive $10,000, but Famer Frog could receive an additional $20,000 if it receives enough votes at this site before Friday. Farmer Frog teaches families how to grow food at schools and other public facilities in Snohomish County.
Tulalip Boys &Girls Club celebrates $20,000 grant
Last Friday, Boys &Girls Clubs of Snohomish County and Amerigroup Foundation hosted a community event to celebrate the T.R.A.I.L (Together Raising Awareness for Indian Life) to Diabetes Prevention Program. Amerigroup Foundation awarded the Tulalip Club with a $20,000 grant to support the existing T.R.A.I.L. program and helped prepare planting beds to grow produce for club youth.
Workers received 2.9 percent wage increases in Puget Sound area
The latest Bureau of Labor Statistics news release shows total compensation costs for private industry workers increased 2.9 percent year-over-year in the Seattle-Tacoma-Olympia metropolitan area for the year that ended March. These statistics cover the local area including Snohomish, Island and Skagit counties. For complete details go online here.
