Regarding Sharum Ali’s guest commentary, “Support for Mukilteo mosque appears politically motivated”: I am the owner of Boondockers Cafe in Marysville. I am very proud to say that I have known Rick Larsen for over 15 years. My family has known Rick, his wife and two sons from the time we were in Lake Stevens. They are regulars at Boondockers and we thank him for supporting our local business. My daughter volunteered a summer working in his office in Everett. He held a town hall meeting at Boondockers a couple of years back.
Rick is a fine gentleman and he has always respected us as Muslims. His commentary in The Herald was sincere and I thank him for it.
In this politically charged climate when Muslim bashing is the order of the day in some circles, it is refreshing that Rick Larsen stood up for us and for diversity.
While I respect Shahrum Ali for his opinion, I disagree with his attack on Rick Larsen. We should thank Rick for standing up for what is right. Most politicians would shun away from any Muslim-related issues. I commend Rick for standing up for us.
A personal note to Rick Larsen: I finally got my heart transplant in January. Four months have passed and I am doing super great!
