Regarding the letter, “Choice of speaker speaks volumes”: The writer seems to think that a convicted felon who has served his time and paid his penalty would not have anything of interest to say. On the contrary, that experience only enhanced his ability to analyze the problems we face as a country.
We should clarify, for those who don’t know his story, that in the fall of 2014, Dinesh D’Souza was charged in federal court with improperly donating money to a friend who was running for the Senate. D’Souza pleaded guilty, apologized for his offense, and was sentenced to eight months in a state-run confinement center near his home in San Diego. Was he targeted for his conservative political views? Most assuredly! Even liberal Harvard professor, Alan Dershowitz, believed that to be the case. He said, “The idea of charging him with a felony for this doesn’t sound like a proper exercise of prosecutorial discretion… I can’t help but think that (D’Souza’s) politics have something to do with it… It smacks of selective prosecution.” He went on to say such alleged campaign violations are common in politics.
Dinesh D’Souza is an American success story, having come here in 1983 as an exchange student from his native country, India. He is a successful author and movie producer. In fact, your readers will want to see his latest film, “Hillary’s America,” due to be released in July.
