I waited until I received my primary ballot before commenting on Secretary of State Kim Wyman’s May 1 guest commentary, “Regardless of party, primary gives everyone a say”: I do not get to have my say. Why? Because I am an independent.
I will not declare that I am a member of a political party. I have always tried to make my vote matter. Declaring that I am a member of a party, and following the party line to vote, can leave qualified people on the sidelines. I won’t do that.
