TACOMA — A 17-year-old girl has filed a lawsuit against a Tacoma police officer over claims that he assaulted her during an arrest in the mall’s parking lot.
KING-TV reported the complaint says the off-duty officer had been working as a security guard for the Tacoma Mall during the 2014 incident.
The suit claims the then-14-year-old had been riding her bike with her brother when the guard stopped them and said they were causing a disturbance.
According to the suit, surveillance video of the incident shows the guard pull the girl off her bike and pin her against a parked car.
The girl was charged with resisting arrest and assault on an officer, but those charges were later dropped.
The Tacoma Police Department declined to comment, citing the pending litigation.
