In support of the proposed mosque in Mukilteo, the Communities of Color Coalition denounces the anonymous acts of hate and bigotry that have recently occurred. The mass postcard mailing last month and the posting of flyers that were found on May 5 perpetuate fear and intolerance that is not worthy of our community. Actions such as these divide communities, impacting all of us.
The United States Constitution grants freedom of religion to all, regardless of race, creed or color.
The Muslim residents of Mukilteo have the right to receive fair and equal treatment regarding their request to build their proposed place of worship. The Communities of Color Coalition joins the city of Mukilteo, Interfaith Association of Northwest Washington, and other organizations that stand in solidarity with supporters of the mosque. We encourage all citizens to promote inclusion and diversity in our communities.
The Communities of Color Coalition is a non-partisan group of Snohomish County citizens who advocate for social justice, cultural and religious respect and human rights, especially for people of color and other underrepresented groups. Our vision is for inclusive communities that welcome diversity, are free of racism and cultural intolerance, and assure fair and equal treatment under the law.
