Remember that the purpose of a primary election is for the political parties to select their candidate, for those who feel that their voting rights are infringed because they would need to declare which party they are affiliated with before voting realize that the parties are private enterprises that can choose who gets to be the candidate however they would like. Case in point: The Democrat Party has chosen to completely ignore the upcoming Washington state presidential primary and instead chose to appoint delegates based on the caucuses. One recent letter writer claimed the caucus system is not fair because he did not have time to spend six hours on a Saturday talking to people he doesn’t know. Let me submit that in fact the people who are willing to put forth the effort to caucus should be the one choosing the candidate and that the states taxpayers should not be on the hook for the expense of a primary election especially when the Democrat party is going to ignore the results.
