Help baby Emma
Proceeds from a Norwegian pancake breakfast in Lake Stevens on Saturday will benefit the Large family to help with medical expenses for 3-month-old Emma, who is expected to have heart surgery this month and also has other ongoing medical issues. The breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, 2111 117th Ave. NE. The cost of the breakfast is $6; children under age 4 are free. National Public Works Week: Snohomish County has planned an event Wednesday in Everett to mark National Public Works Week. It’s scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the courthouse plaza on Wall Street between Wetmore and Oakes avenues. People who show up will have chances to meet county employees and see some of the equipment they use for their jobs. The department helps to improve and maintain roadways, sustain clean waterways, keep healthy salmon habitats and manage solid waste services.
Fire station tours: The public is invited to an open house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Fire Station 17, 275 6th Ave. N., Edmonds. More than 80 percent of the 911 calls to Snohomish Fire District 1 are for medical emergencies. All District 1 firefighters are certified as EMTs or paramedics.
The open house will include a 10-minute CPR lesson, free blood pressure checks and information about being prepared for a disaster. The event also will include activities for kids, including a teddy bear clinic.
Kids can bring their favorite stuffed animal to receive emergency care from firefighters in an ambulance. Kids also will have the chance to wear mini-bunker gear.
