EVERETT — No one was injured in an apartment fire south of Everett that caused more than $175,000 damage and displaced 10 residents Wednesday afternoon.
The fire was reported around 12:30 p.m. at Hillcrest Estates in the 1000 block of 130th Street SW.
Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the windows of a second-floor unit in a three-story, 18-unit building.
Residents were able to get out safely. Firefighters rescued two dogs from the third floor.
Firefighters from Snohomish County fire districts 1 and 7, Everett and Mukilteo had the fire under control in about 15 minutes.
“They made a quick attack and kept the fire contained to the second-floor apartment where it started,” said Leslie Hynes, a spokeswoman for fire district 1.
Two other apartments — the units directly above and below the burned unit — had smoke and water damage.
None of the residents had insurance.
The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office and the Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating the cause of the fire.
