Meet school chief candidates
Academic Link Outreach plans a reception and forum with the four candidates for state superintendent of public instruction from 5:30 to 8 p.m. June 2 at the Historic Everett Theatre, 2911 Colby Ave., Everett.
Guests also include keynote speaker Thomas Ahearne, attorney for the McCleary Supreme Court case, and Nathan Gibbs-Bowling, the 2015 State Teacher of the Year. The League of Women Voters will conduct the candidate Q&A.

World Turtle Day: Thayer “Frog Lady” Cueter will provide information on Washington’s native turtle species, the Western pond turtle, with an emphasis on what we can do to protect them, from 1 to3 p.m. Sunday at the Edmonds Wildlife Habitat Native Plant Demonstration Garden, located at the hatchery at the corner of Pine Street and Edmonds Way. Non-native turtles will be on hand for adoption as indoor pets. The event is free, but donations are welcome. For more information, call 206-618-7232.
Community sale: The nonprofit Fairway Estates 55-plus Residence Community’s annual carport sale, white elephant sale and bake sale, are set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday amd Saturday at 1427 100th St. SW, Everett (just off Airport Road).
