BOTHELL — The Northshore School District says classes will resume Monday at Bothell High School, with an increased police presence on campus.
A high school wood shop teacher was attacked Thursday after school.
The teacher, 63, was treated and released from Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. His injuries were described as serious, Bothell police Sgt. Cedric Collins said. Investigators have not heard of any previous threats against the teacher.
No arrest had been made as of early Friday evening. Classes were cancelled Friday due to the ongoing investigation.
District Superintendent Larry Francois called the situation alarming and highly unusual and said school officials will do whatever they can to make students and staff feel safe Monday, including providing extra counselors.
At a press conference Friday, Bothell police Sgt. Ken Seuberlich said the injured teacher was found by another teacher outside of the shop class. The shop teacher had a zip tie around his neck and a head wound. His colleague came to his aid, cutting off the zip tie and calling 911.
Seuberlich said police are continuing to analyze security footage from the school to identify a suspect. No suspect description was made public Friday. It was too soon to say whether any students were involved, Collins said.
The assault was reported just after 4:15 p.m. Thursday. Some students were still on campus for after-school activities.
Police encourage anyone with information to call 425-487-5551. No other details were made public Friday.
