Thanks for the eye opening article by Jerry Cornfield regarding the Snohomish County Democratic Convention on May 1. It strikes me as vitally important when average people in Snohomish, King, Skagit and Whatcom counties get that interested and excited about politics that they are willing to challenge their representatives so fervently. This doesn’t happen very often, and merits real thought and examination.
I believe a great many people are very worried about the direction our country is headed, and our effect on other countries as well as the planet. Bernie Sanders represents a chance for real change, from a candidate who is consistent and credible over a long political career. Hillary Clinton represents a continuation of Obama’s policies, i.e. the current status quo. Our country’s been at war for a very long time now, climate change is showing real effects already, and Wall Street and bankers have a Plan B. But the taxpayers, the average people have no such protection. In other words, people are flat-out worried and totally fed up!
I disagree with Richard Wright, the county party chairman, quoted in the article, who believes the fire will be contained when one candidate gracefully bows out, and endorses the nominee. It’s the old “fall in line” trick, but we already have a pretty good idea what to expect if Hillary Clinton is the nominee, and people will still be voraciously hungry for real change and believable leaders.
