More than 500 residents joined to support Snohomish County’s smallest residents — it’s babies— by participating in the March for Babies to benefit the March of Dimes.
Langus Riverfront Park was packed with strollers, families and teams on April 23 to celebrate raising more than $90,000 to help babies be born healthy.
“We’ve seen how important it is to help our babies,” said March for Babies director Chontelle Mackner. “This has been an incredible event, and I am so proud of what we have accomplished here together today.”
Money raised from the event funds research, awareness, education and community grants to see that all babies are born healthy.
The most urgent infant health problem in the United States is premature birth, which affects nearly half a million babies each year. Babies born too soon are more likely to die or have disabilities.
The March of Dimes helps fund research to prevent premature birth and provides comfort and information to families who are affected.
March for Babies is sponsored locally by Providence Medical Group, Providence Regional Medical Center Everett, Swedish Health Services, KeyBank, Les Schwab Tire Centers, KING 5, WARM 106.9 and MOViN 92.5.
The 2016 March for Babies is sponsored nationally by Kmart, Famous Footwear, Macy’s, Cigna, United Airlines and Mission Pharmacal.
