STANWOOD — One man was taken to a local hospital after he was shot at a Stanwood area park-and-ride lot Sunday night.
The shooting was reported around 7:30 p.m. in the lot just west of I-5 and south of Highway 532.
Yellow crime scene tape was used to cordon off a big chunk on the park-and-ride as more than a half dozen Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office and Stanwood police vehicles converged on the area. Detectives with the Major Crimes Unit arrived later to investigate the shooting scene.
A sheriff’s deputy witnessed the shooting, secured the scene, called for medical help and rendered aid to the victim before medics arrived, sheriff’s Lt. Jeff Brand said.
The sheriff’s office received a call from someone who reported that some of his property had been stolen. He apparently had arranged to meet up with the suspected thief at a Stanwood park and ride. The suspect allegedly was trying to sell the property online, Brand said.
Deputies first went to a Stanwood area park and ride off 300th Street NW and I-5 and found nothing suspicious.
As the deputy pulled into the park-and-ride lot off of Highway 532, he witnessed multiple people opening fire, Brand said. The deputy was not involved in the exchange of gunfire.
The injured man was shot multiple times. He was conscious when the deputy tended to him, Brand said.
No arrests had been made when The Herald went to press Sunday night.
