About a year ago, I sent a letter to the governor with a better approach to fighting forest fires.
I suggested that at the first sighting of a potential forest fire, should alert all surrounding counties and states that have aircraft for dropping water. Then when we realize the fire could get out of control, then we call in all available aircraft and smother it at once.
The way it is now, when we get our crews in, the progress, mostly on foot, is so slow, the fire’s progress gets ahead of those trying to fight it.
If all the planes are called in, right now, we then would get ahead of it, and quite possibly smother it out before it can get away from us.
Sure, it would cost us money to get help from other states, but what does it cost Washington now, when these fires burn for days and weeks at a time.
This doesn’t even take into consideration the danger to our firefighters, which drags on and on!
I think that this should be considered like, right now, before fire season is here and out of control, again!
