The Seahawks begin phase three of their offseason program Monday, holding the first of their OTAs (organized team activities).
Teams are allowed to hold a maximum of 10 OTAs over a three-week period. Seattle is holding nine this year. The dates:
WEEK 1
– Monday
– Tuesday
– Thursday
WEEK 2
– May 31
– June 1
– June 3
WEEK 3
– June 6
– June 7
– June 9
Thursday’s session is open to the media, as are those on June 1 and June 9.
OTAs are technically voluntary for the players, though I suspect the players are “strongly encouraged” to attend. Yet we can expect someone like defensive end Michael Bennett, who’s been vocal about his displeasure with his contract, to be absent. This will also be an opportunity to find out where players who are coming off injuries, such as tight end Jimmy Graham (knee) and running back Thomas Rawls (ankle), stand in their recoveries.
In OTAs, 7-on-7, 9-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills are allowed, but there is no live contact. Therefore, while the players and coaches can work on familiarizing themselves with schemes and one another, it can be difficult to evaluate some aspects because of the lack of contact.
OTAs are followed by a mandatory veteran minicamp on June 14-16.
