CARLSBORG — Greywolf Elementary School was evacuated for a bomb threat, the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.
Students were moved to the Clallam County Fire District 3 training grounds just north of the school at 171 Carlsborg Rd.
“Everybody’s safe,” Chief Criminal Deputy Brian King said.
School officials received the bomb threat at about 12:15 p.m. Monday.
A statewide intelligence-gathering center indicated that other schools might have received similar phone calls, said King.
“It was an automated phone call received by the school,” King said.
“It didn’t specifically name Greywolf. Greywolf has followed their school policy, their district-wide policy, and have evacuated the students to the fire district training grounds next to the school.”
State Patrol bomb-sniffing dogs were in route, King said.
Parents were able to meet their children at the fire district training grounds, King said, where they would be allowed to pick them up with identification.
The school provided the following information on its website Monday:
“A threat was received at Greywolf Elementary and police are currently conducting a thorough search of the grounds. The students are safe and have been evacuated to a secure location. Parents, there is no reason at this time to go to the Greywolf School site as roads need to be kept clear. Please check back on the district website for further updates to be posted as they become available. Thank you.
1:25 p.m. Update: School buses are on the way to pick up the students who normally ride the bus home, and they will be taken to the middle school gym until the end of the school day, at which time they will ride their normal bus home. For now, the other kids remain in the secure location. More information is coming soon.”
