With the plans to rename Highway 99, the questions of costs and confusion have arose. Will it really have an affect on the memory of the individual? It doesn’t seem to work for bridges. How many people have ridden across the Lacey V. Murrow Bridge? A true novelty when it was first built. Have you been on the Albert D. Rosellini Bridge recently? It really has changed dramatically. When’s the last time you were on the William A Bugge Bridge? It sank once. These are all of our floating bridges. We know them by their familiar names, not for their true names. Would this change Highway 99 to “The Stewart”? Think of this the next time you drive across the George Washington Memorial Bridge while motoring on the old Pacific Coast Highway.
