Steven Orr of Rochester broke a long-standing state record May 15 when he boated a black rockfish of 10.72 pounds and more than 26 inches in length, out of Ilwaco, fishing herring. The big “sea bass” was almost a half-pound heavier than the previous record, caught in the Tacoma Narrows in 1980. Most black rockfish run 2 to 5 pounds.
