YAKIMA — Aaron Davenport pitched a complete game and allowed two unearned runs and Ben Lemery drove in a pair of runs to lead Cedarcrest into the 2A state championship game with a 3-2 win over Fife on Friday.
Davenport threw six scoreless innings before the Trojans (21-4) scored twice in their final at-bat on an error.
With the tying run on second base with one out in the seventh, Cedarcrest shortstop Cody Banks made a diving catch of a soft looper and threw to second to double the runner off, ending the game.
Banks also went 2-for-3 at the plate and scored twice for the Red Wolves (17-9). Blaine Wagner went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Josh Goodrich added a hit and scored a run.
Cedarcrest plays Selah in the state-title game at 4 p.m. Saturday, and will send Jake Jewell to the mound.
“Selah is a solid team, and they always are,” Cedarcrest coach Scott Goldsberry said. “It’s a really great program that seems to be in the final four every year, and you know you’re going to get a good team when you play Selah.”
