LACEY — The Everett softball team is making itself at home in Lacey.
With a large crowd of fans watching, Everett -– which finished second at last year’s 3A state tournament –- got off to a good start this time around with four home runs in an 8-3 victory over Auburn Mountainview in its state opener Friday afternoon at the Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey.
The victory sets up a showdown with Kelso in a state quarterfinal matchup at 4 p.m.
Gabby Koehler, Rachel Christensen, Megan Gordon and Whitney Harris all hit solo home runs for Everett (19-5 overall), which got its second victory over Auburn Mountainview (17-5) this season. The Seagulls also defeated the Lions 5-0 in a non-conference game on March 18.
Everett added four runs in the sixth inning to take a 7-0 lead. Auburn Mountainview got two runs in the bottom half of the sixth before Harris’s solo home run to lead off the top of the seventh.
The Lions got one more run in the seventh on an RBI single by Zoe Collins before Everett pitcher Sydney Taggart closed out the win.
